Orajel Cold Sore is an over the counter medication used to relieve cold sore pain.

It is a single product containing 2 medications: benzocaine and white petrolatum. Benzocaine belongs to a group of drugs called topical analgesic, and it works to temporarily numb pain. White petrolatum belongs to a group of drugs called skin protectant. It works to create a protective barrier that prevents cold sores from cracking and drying to help speed healing.

This medication comes in a cream and is applied to the affected area three to four times a day.

Common side effects of Orajel Cold Sore Cream include redness, stinging and irritation.
